The crows know all

To quote the great Smith & Jones sketch show from the 1980s “#Hello, Police? We’ve reason to believe there’s a body in the garden”.

Crows have descended on a small patch of grass (dare I say, “grave-sized”) and have obliterated it. Being carrion creatures it does make you wonder what they are after, as it is only in this area.

Incidentally, I believe that this area used to be located in the vicarage gardens, and if Miss Marple is to be believed, it is always the vicarage that throws up such happenings.

Anyway, photos are attached…. the close up is a bit blurry as it was taken through binoculars LOL.

Wildlife perception filter

We are surrounded by wildlife every day, we just don’t realise how much. We seem to just switch off and it passes us by unnoticed.

So today I thought I would note all that I saw, without making an active effort to look for it, and I was amazed by just how much you see without actually knowing it.

My sightings for today, so far, are as follows:

Rook, Starling, Magpie, Jack Daw, Carrion Crow (dead), Blackbird, Robin, Goldfinch, Grey Squirrel (dead), Wood Pigeon, Collared Dove, Common Gull, Rabbit, Chaffinch, Ladybird, Bumble Bee, House Martin.

Add to that all the other birds that I could not identify as they were too far away and the ones that I could only hear and that makes an impressive total for an average day without going out looking for wildlife.

So get out there and see what is all around you.

Capture

To the humans down on the planet’s surface, the vast blackness between the stars of the night sky appeared empty. They could not see. Even if they could, they would not be able to comprehend the timeless battles that were spinning above their heads.
Gracefully, silently and invisibly, the colossal force swooped around planets, danced through gaseous clouds and weaved its way between asteroid fields. The only clue to its existence is the faint flickering of the distant stars as it passes between them and the ignorant observers on earth.
Briefly, it pauses. It’s senses alerted to the presence of its prey. A new star is being born and there, just on the outer fringes of the glow is the tiniest of lights. The predator begins its approach. It has to be careful not to startle its victim but it also has to be quick. Once the star reaches its full brightness the tiny light will be almost impossible to see and the chance of a quick capture will be gone and the chase will begin again.
With all the power of a black hole it wraps itself around the infant star encompassing the tiny light and begins to squeeze. Tighter and tighter, the star itself becoming compressed under the immense pressure. The tiny light and the infant star have now become one intense point of brilliance. Tighter still, tighter and brighter, smaller and ….

Down on the planet’s surface a small white room is filled with a busy optimism. Two humans wearing light blue robes and facemasks are focused on a semi-naked woman. With one final push, one of the enrobed takes hold of a small wriggling lump of flesh. As soon as it can feel the air there is a moment of realisation, this is a new experience that it does not like. It has been caught and this body will serve as its prison. The tiny light gives out a cry; the new born baby cries.

Spacepenguin Audiocast March 2009

I have made a test recording for a Spacepenguin Audiocast. It is not very high quality as it was just recorded using my mobile phone while out and about. Also I have a horrible muddled-sounding voice so the words are not really that clear, I may put up a transcript later if I can be bothered, but in the mean time… enjoy. Feedback good or bad will be welcome. Thank you.

These are images of Scarborough Graveyard. Just a few miles from Whitby, North Yorkshire, where Bram Stoker famously set the arrival of Dracula into England.

This has a link to my last.fm artist’s page with my releases.

I must admit they are not that typical of my normal music as most of what I play is normally live and improvised and therefore does not get recorded – these are more like “dabblings”.

If you feel inclined to listen to them I would be grateful as I collect royalties from all plays (not that they will amount to much)
